Beneficiaries

For more than 65 years, the Chi Omega Alumnae Association of Houston has proudly supported local charities in our community and the academic pursuits of collegiate women.

In 2000, a survey of Chi Omega’s membership indicated the desire within the Chi Omega organization to establish a national charity alliance that focused on women’s or children’s issues. In 2002, Chi Omega Fraternity named Make-A-Wish® America as its national charity. Since the program’s inception, Chi Omega has raised over $37 million and granted more than 3,400 wishes, all in the name of Make-A-Wish. With the assistance of more than 200,000 Chi Omegas, Make-A-Wish chapters have benefited from well over 1.4 million volunteered hours.

In 2024, the Chi Omega Houston Kaleidoscope committee made the decision to join our sisters across the country. This year’s Chi Omega Kaleidoscope will support Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana and create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana has granted more than 11,400 wishes since its inception in 1984. Make-A-Wish seeks to bring every eligible child’s wish to life because a wish is an integral part of a child’s treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight their illness. This chapter serves 47 counties in the Texas Gulf Coast and all 64 parishes in Louisiana. Through 2023, our alumnae association has also granted nearly $300,000 in scholarships to 179 recipients from the Houston-area attending university campuses across the country.  Each year, undergraduate members of Chi Omega are invited to apply for a Chi Omega Kaleidoscope scholarship grant in recognition of their outstanding academic achievement and their leadership on campus and in the community.  We also fund a Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Association  scholarship annually that is open to active members of any National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sorority.

In addition, our local fundraising efforts have enabled us to donate nearly $150,000 to the Chi Omega Foundation in order to fund important educational and leadership training programs for Chi Omega members, as well as other critical tools and resources to support the needs of chapters nationwide.
